fiskaly. E-INVOICE: one API for Italian receipts and e-invoicing
Italy's B2B document management market is worth 4.9 billion euros today, yet only 7% of companies have advanced digital maturity. 56% still struggle with operational inefficiencies tied to flow traceability and system integration. For providers of management software, ERP systems, and point-of-sale registers, that fragmentation creates a concrete problem: maintaining separate infrastructure for real-time receipt reporting (corrispettivi telematici) and e-invoicing, with different vendors, different contracts, and multiplying development costs. fiskaly is launching E-INVOICE in Italy, the solution that brings receipt reporting and B2B e-invoicing together on the same API, with regulatory updates always included.
Two obligations, two vendors, twice the risk
E-invoicing has been mandatory in Italy since 2019, and businesses have long since adapted to it. What remains unresolved is fragmentation: receipts and invoices are still handled as two separate worlds. A management software provider that already transmits real-time receipt data to the Agenzia delle Entrate (Italy's tax authority) has to integrate with a second vendor to also cover invoicing through the Sistema di Interscambio (SDI), maintaining a second infrastructure and tracking a second set of regulatory updates.
The result is fragmentation on three fronts: duplicated development costs, since each integration requires its own maintenance and testing; regulatory misalignment risk, with potential penalties if even one of the two vendors fails to keep pace with an update; and operational complexity for support teams, who end up managing two points of contact to resolve a single customer issue.
fiskaly E-INVOICE: the same API, one more obligation covered
With E-INVOICE, fiskaly turns B2B e-invoicing into a configuration step on the integration already in place for receipts, not a new project to build from scratch. Partners already using the fiskaly API for real-time receipt reporting can activate invoice issuance and transmission through SDI without adding a single line of new integration code.
"E-invoicing has been mandatory in Italy since 2019, and businesses have long since adapted to it. What remains unresolved is fragmentation: Italian companies still manage receipts and e-invoicing as two separate worlds, with different vendors and infrastructure for each obligation," says Silvio Agresti, Country Manager Italy at fiskaly. "With fiskaly E-INVOICE, we're giving our partners a new revenue stream without a single line of extra integration: anyone already handling receipts on our API can also activate B2B e-invoicing, always up to date on regulation, turning compliance from a cost into a business opportunity."
What a POS or software vendor gets
- One technology partner, one contract, and one support contact for receipts and invoices.
- Automatic validation of invoice structure and format before submission, cutting manual errors and SDI rejections.
- Regulatory updates included, with no need to independently track every change to tax rules.
- Certified security, with ISO 27001 and ISO 9001 standards and data stored in European data centers.
- A new revenue stream, activated on the existing integration with no additional development.
This combination of flexibility and security matters most for sectors most exposed to point-of-sale fiscalization, such as retail, hospitality, and tourism.
The European picture: what changes with ViDA
The EU's VAT in the Digital Age (ViDA) reform, adopted in March 2025, sets two key deadlines: from July 1, 2030, structured e-invoicing and real-time digital reporting will become mandatory for all cross-border B2B transactions; by January 1, 2035, existing national systems will also need to align with the new standard, including Italy's Sistema di Interscambio (SDI).
For technology providers, that means preparing an architecture ready for cross-border exchange ahead of time, for example through standard networks like Peppol, instead of redesigning the technology roadmap at every border crossing. Providers already running receipts and invoicing on a single fiskaly API start this transition from a stronger position.
Why act now
fiskaly is a European tech company specializing in cloud-based, API-first fiscalization and VAT compliance, already live with E-INVOICE in Germany and Belgium, with more European markets arriving in the coming months. For providers of management software, ERP, and POS systems in Italy, integrating E-INVOICE on the API already used for receipts covers an entire compliance cycle โ from transaction to tax certification to reporting โ with a single vendor and a regulatory roadmap already mapped through ViDA.
