The coalition agreement between CDU, CSU, and SPD stipulates that starting January 1, 2027, businesses with an annual turnover exceeding 100,000 euros will be required to use cash registers (“Registrierkassenpflicht”). At the same time, the current obligation to issue receipts – known as the “Belegausgabepflicht” – is to be abolished.
So far, no details are known about the abolition of the receipt requirement: it is unclear whether this will apply only to certain industries, transaction amounts, etc., or whether the requirement will be abolished altogether.
