B2C e-invoicing in Italy: E-INVOICE IT now covers consumers too

Customers asked for it: E-INVOICE IT now supports invoices to end consumers too, no new integration required.

E-INVOICE IT now supports B2C too: our customers' most requested feature in Italy

In Italy, electronic invoicing doesn't only apply to business-to-business relationships. Since 2019 the obligation has also covered transactions with end consumers, and every invoice, B2B or B2C, still has to go through the Sistema di Interscambio (SdI) in the FatturaPA XML format. Anyone who sells to consumers as well as to other businesses has always had to manage both needs in parallel.

Until now, E-INVOICE IT only covered the first half of that flow: issuing invoices to BUSINESS recipients. As of today, the same integration also extends to invoicing end consumers.

Why B2C lagged behind

In a B2B flow, the recipient almost always has its own SDI mailbox or, failing that, a PEC address that lets the SdI deliver the invoice directly. In B2C this is rarely the case: end consumers usually have neither an SDI mailbox nor any obligation to get one. The invoice still has to be transmitted to the SdI, but delivery to the recipient follows different rules, typically a courtesy copy handed directly to the customer.

That difference is why many e-invoicing integrations, including the previous version of E-INVOICE IT, focused on B2B only: handling B2C correctly requires a separate flow.

What changes with this update

With the B2C extension, anyone with an active E-INVOICE IT integration can:

  • Issue electronic invoices to private consumers too, in addition to the B2B invoices already supported
  • Keep using the same Unified API, the same Taxpayer, and the same architecture already in production, without building a separate integration for B2C
  • Manage both flows, B2B and B2C, from a single integration point

Nothing changes in what already works: B2B invoices, FISCAL_DEVICE Systems, the Taxpayer commissioning flow, and existing credentials all stay exactly as they are.

Why we built it

This wasn't a decision made in a vacuum. It's the most requested feature among customers who had already integrated E-INVOICE IT for B2B and found themselves handling B2C with a different tool, often less integrated with the rest of their fiscal stack. The goal of the extension is simple: a single integration for the entire e-invoicing cycle in Italy, regardless of the type of end customer.

Getting started

Anyone with E-INVOICE IT already active for B2B can request activation of B2C coverage through their account manager or the fiskaly support team, without starting a new integration from scratch. Anyone who hasn't integrated E-INVOICE IT yet can start by covering both flows directly.

No — it uses the same Unified API, the same Taxpayer, and the same architecture already used for B2B; only a minimal configuration change is needed.

The invoice is still transmitted to the SdI; delivery to the customer follows the rules set for private individuals, typically via a courtesy copy.
